We were asked to provide a clear strategy for the future, replacing the existing masterplan that had proved not to be practical. On a complex historic site, including Cadbury World, production, administration and leisure facilities, we developed short, medium and long term plans for future redevelopment.
We unlocked the heritage of the site and maximised the potential of the space by moving current outdated manufacturing facilities to a new zone to allow for plant expansion and releasing the buildings bordering the historic Conservation Area for leisure use. Historical structures were used to cater for an expanded Cadbury World museum, which attracts 500,000 visitors a year, and exhibition area.
The Grade II listed Girls Bath was restored and the 1920’s dining block was redeveloped into new administrative headquarters – also designed by Stanton Williams. Office space was rationalised by phasing out some buildings and providing new car parking zones. The comprehensive masterplan was brought to life with a series of 3D models that can be easily understood and followed by all concerned with the estate’s future.
The masterplan, which was accepted by planners and is in use by Cadbury Trebor Bassett, will preserve the historic character of the site, enhance Bournville as a visitor attraction, and allow the company to meet current and future manufacturing demands.
