Opened in 1989, this was the largest exhibition of Leonardo da Vinci’s drawings to be held in Britain for 30 years. It illustrated the diversity of the scientist, philosopher, painter and draughtsman. In addition to Da Vinci’s drawings being featured within the exhibition were a series of large working models of cranks, pulleys, turntables, incomplete buildings and a prototype of the tank.
All made as close as possible to Da Vinci’s theoretical proposals. These, along with sponsor IBM’s technology, projecting Leonardo’s schemes and mathematical investigations, completed the aptly titled exhibition: Leonardo da Vinci – Artist: Scientist: Inventor.
