"The design of the galleries match the spare coolness of the rest of the museum".Architects Journal
The design of permanent and temporary exhibition galleries within the Design Museum involved integral environmental systems, ceiling and display walling systems. In the permanent gallery large structural glass showcases were built into the space, alongside freestanding showcase and deskcase systems. The suspended ceiling carries the environmental services and exhibition accessories. Removable veils of tensioned translucent fabric can lower the gallery’s ceiling over exhibits where required.
Embedded in the upper ceiling and upper walls are tracks for hanging objects. A grid of flush, circular structural fixing points and electrical outlets discreetly stud the walls and floors, supporting a purpose-made system of struts for shelving, and cable railways for lighting.
