The Musee des Beaux Arts de Nantes is showing an exhibition echoeing the current museum in the midst of mutation, site renovation and extension. "Si j'avais un marteau" - "If I had a hammer" will be on show at the Hangar a Bananes in Nantes from 19 October 2012 to 6 January 2013.
The exhibition addresses the "project", real or imagined, in contemporary art.
A selection of works from French public collections or commissioned for the exhibition are putting the idea of the building site into perspective. The image of building work becomes a metaphor in a world of constant transformation, construction and demolition.
Alongside the exhibition, photographs of original Museum Hall paintings and original drawings of the current Palais des Arts by the architect Clement Josso architect are shown alongside project models and visualisations of the future transformation into the Musee d'Art de Nantes designed by Stanton Williams.
