The tenth annual RIBA Research Symposium tackles The Design Quality Proposition: Ensuring and Communicating Design Quality in Architectural Practice.
The symposium will be chaired by Peter Clegg of Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios and presentations will bring together practice and academia to unpack what leads to design quality in projects, examining aspects such as occupant satisfaction, construction excellence, environmental performance, and of course, funding mechanisms.
Discussions will be anchored around three case studies, three ‘design quality propositions’, explored through presentations by the architect, client and an independent academic reviewer:
The Sainsbury Laboratory, University of Cambridge by Stanton Williams
Wilkinson (Passivhaus) Primary School in Wolverhampton by Architype
Royal Road, social housing in Southwark by Panter Hudspith for Affinity Sutton
Stanton Williams Director Gavin Henderson will be discussing the Stirling Prize-winning Sainsbury Laboratory, Cambridge.
The plenary session will include a keynote presentation from Alan Penn, Dean of the Bartlett School of Architecture, UCL and Henrik Schoenefeldt, lecturer at the Kent School of Architecture.
